Two Cadets from Beccles Air Training Corps are flying high after achieving pilot qualifications. Sergeant Chloe Bridge, 17, from Beccles, was awarded a nine day Microlight Flying Scholarship at RAF Halton, flying in three-axis Thruster micolights. During the course, she was taught use of the flight controls, take-off and landing techniques, and had to take an examination in air law. The aim of the course was to gain flying training skills, and to fly a 20 minute solo sortie within 10 hours of flying. Having already flown solo in an Air Cadet glider, Chloe commented, “it was an excellent opportunity to improve my flying skills, and although the solo flight seemed daunting, I felt relaxed once I was in the air.” Eighteen year old Sergeant Louise Vincent, from Hellesdon, spent nine days at RAF Watton, Norfolk, on a Gliding Scholarship. The aim of the scholarship was to achieve solo flight within 40 launches in Grob Viking gliders belonging to the ATC, and to pass a Wings Test on flying knowledge. Louise gained full marks on the test, and went solo after 27 launches. She has already attended a powered flying course with the ATC through a 10 hour Flying Scholarship. Speaking of her experience, Louise said “the course was fantastic, and one of the best activities I have ever done as an Air Cadet”. |
