Activities Shooting Adventure Training Flying and Gliding Camps Sport The Duke Of Edinburgh's Award The Air Training Corps is the largest operating authority of the Duke of
Edinburgh's Award in the UK. Many of the Corps activities can be used to
complete sections of the award at all three levels. The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is open to all young people aged 14 - 25, regardless of ability. For more information go to www.theaward.org. At Beccles Squadron all our cadets are involved in the Award once they reach the age of 14. We are keen to support and encourage them as much as possible. For those age 16 and over we have just begun to offer Millennium Volunteers through the DofE Award as an additional award. We run in house training on Home Safety and Young Lifesaver Plus First Aid for Bronze and Silver service, and encourage our senior cadets and NCOs to use their role on the unit for their award. We have also organised external First Aid and Youth Fire-fighter courses. Our adventure training program incorporates the expedition section, which we carry out in a variety of areas, both locally and in wild country. Many ATC activities cover the skill section including Flying, Gliding, aircraft modelling, Aeronautics (the training syllabus) and radio to name a few. Sport is carried out on a regular basis to enable cadets to complete the physical section if they wish to, others use membership of local teams to complete this. The 5 day residential section for Gold participants can be carried out on a variety of ATC activities from UK Summer Camps to an International Air Cadet Exchange in Australia or Canada. All we ask of you is to get stuck into the activities, be enthusiastic, and produce a report either written or verbal at the end of the section. Cadets participating in the D of E scheme will be able to get 10% off in many outdoor retailers. If you require advice before spending a lot of money on new equipment please ask. |
