WING FIELD WEEKEND

Over the weekend of the 11th to the 13th May, 759 (Beccles) Squadron ATC attended a ‘Wing Field Competition’, which involved all 28 Squadrons within the Norfolk and Suffolk Wing of the ATC.

The competition was held at the Stanta Training grounds at Thetford. The first day included a tug of war competition, initiative exercises, and a full assault course. Following a packed lunch the team was transported to RAF Marham for a shooting competition. Having returned to Stanta, the team completed an orienteering course of 7km, collecting stamps at predetermined points. The evening was filled with several exercises such as map reading, and general quizzes.

The Sunday began with a first aid exercise, involving a simulated traffic accident. The team then took part in a raft building and racing competition. The team had to build a raft, paddle it across a river and then return to the start point.

The final even of the weekend was an aircraft recognition competition, which Beccles Squadron excelled at.

Beccles Squadron came 5th overall, 3rd in the initiative exercises,  2nd in the  shooting competition, and 1st in the Aircraft recognition competition, winning a large cup and medals for the team members, who were Cadet Sergeants Matt Miller and David Loveridge, Cadet Corporals Gerard Vejrych, Joe Tyson, and Claire Mudge, and Cadets Evan Smithson, Vanessa Southernwood, Will Lawson-Brown.

Team captain Cadet Sergeant Matt Miller, 16, from Thurton said “The team performed extremely well, and did a brilliant job”
