Top team scores top marks

(L-R) Sgt Joey Barfe, Sgt Matt Miller, Cpl Joe Tyson & Cpl Gerard Vejrych

Beccles Squadron have had another shooting success, this time in the Green Howards shooting competition. The competition was between 169 other teams nationwide.

The five cadets who took part shot a variety of challenging targets, including landscape targets, time and snap shooting. They managed to achieve an impressive 15th place overall in the UK, out of all 169 other teams, with a score of 281 out of 500. This gave the Squadron the highest score out of all the other Squadrons in the Norfolk and Suffolk Wing, with the next best Squadron in the Wing coming 71st. The Squadron is looking forward to the competition next year and is hoping to improve on the score.

The sharp shooters who were in the team were Cadet Sergeants Matt Miller, Joey Barfe, Cadet Corporals Gerard Vejrych, Joe Tyson, and Cadet Sergeant Jake Smithson, who has since left to join the Army.

Flight Lieutenant Jo Gruchy and Warrant Officer Martin Dobson trained and coached the team, and hope to build on this performance for other competitions later in the year.

Sgts Miller, Sgt Barfe, Cpl Tyson and Cpl Vejrych were joined by Sgt David Loveridge and 3 other cadets from other units in the Wing to make up the Norfolk & Suffolk team for another competition recently.  The results are awaited.  All 5 gained a Wing Blue for their participation.
