HOLT HALL 2007 759 Beccles Squadron ATC enjoyed a training weekend camping at Holt Hall in late April, and were joined by cadets from Lowestoft, Leiston and Wymondham Squadrons. The weekend started late on Friday night with an advanced party setting up tents and building a camp fire, which was a welcome sight on the arrival of the main party. Saturday began with the cadets cooking their breakfasts and being briefed for the days activities. They were then tasked to complete a familiarisation exercise of the area, where they were introduced to the grounds of Holt Hall. The next exercise was for small groups of cadets to move from one end of the campsite to the other without being caught by the ‘Staff team’. After lunch the cadets were split into groups, and all had a go at kayaking, and raft building in teams. These rafts were then raced against the clock to complete several tasks on the Holt Hall Lake. Cadets were given a full first aid scenario to deal with, covering a range of problems and injuries. This helped the cadets put into practise the first aid they have learn from the first aid courses the Squadron has been running over the past months – Cadet Vanessa Southernwood, 15, from Kessingland, said “The weekend was great fun, and the first aid exercise was good practise for the Young Lifesavers Plus course”. On Saturday evening the Squadron went to the local swimming pool, in which the cadets did both the Basic and Intermediate swimming proficiencies. On the Sunday the cadets did several navigation and orienteering exercises, to an old disused radar station in North Norfolk. All of the cadets who attended the camp really enjoyed themselves, and found the weekend useful and educational. |
