Staff Home Officers Civilian Instructors Civilian Committee Adult Non-Commissioned Officers
Our adult NCOs will usually take responsibility for drill and discipline, supply and the accommodation, although it depends on the individual squadron. They will also be heavily involved with the training program, activities and events. To become a SNCO you must be between 20 and 55 years of age. Some senior cadets may apply to become an adult SNCO when they reach 20, but most will be Civilian Instructors who decide to go into uniform. If they are interested and their Commanding Officer considers them suitable they will go forward for a Wing Board (like a job interview) which will decide whether or not to appoint them. NCOs receive all their uniform from the Royal Air Force, and wear the same cap badges as regular RAF NCOs. SNCOs can claim up to 28 days pay for attending certain activities, and can claim expenses and travel to cover many of their costs. The main distinguishing feature is the silver ATC badge they wear on their rank slides.
